MOTHERHOOD: Twenty-four-hour Job without Pay but Most Fulfilling

In the small parish of Gagama Hill in Mbale district, amidst rolling hills and a beautiful greenery countryside with an ever-flourishing meadow, there lived a stay-at-home mother named Emily. She was known throughout the village for her kindness, gentle spirit, and unwavering love for her children.

Emily was married to one of the district engineers in Mbale, called Musa, and she was blessed with three children identified as Lily, Jack, and Sarah. Each day, Emily dedicated her life to making her children happy until the sun dipped below the hills.

Emily’s days were a hurricane of caring for her children and husband as she woke before the rest to prepare breakfast for her sleepy-eyed angels and pack their lunch, sometimes slipping in small chits with simple messages of I love you, you are the best, you can make it, you got this, depending on what kind of challenge the child had encountered the previous day, before she set off to the garden.

As the day went by, Emily was able to engage in her work and still manage to tend to her children’s needs. Right from bandaging scraped knees to wiping away tears, sharing in their triumphs and failures.

As children were in school, she managed household chores, homework help, and other countless tasks, all with a smile on her face and a song in her heart.

No matter how tired she was or how challenging the day had been, Emily’s love for her children never wavered, as she never showed them a sad and tired face and was always smiling when dealing with them.

She knew that motherhood was a 24-hour job with no breaks or time off, which she embraced with open arms and a giving heart. As the sun set and the world quieted down, Emily tucked her children into bed, whispering words of love and assurance as they drifted off to sleep.

During those quiet moments, Emily would gaze at her sleeping angels, feel a profound sense of gratitude for the gift of motherhood, and reward herself for the great job done during the day with a glass of milk before she could retire herself to bed.

To Emily, being a mother was not just a role she played but rather woven into the very fabric of her being.

Emily’s big heart can be described as one with love that knew no bounds, the love that transcended time and space, and the love that would endure for all eternity.

Unfortunately, one sad Saturday afternoon, while Emily tended to her garden, she received the most devastating news of her life that broke her heart to pieces: her little angels had been poisoned by a jealousy neighbor, who was rumored to be her husband’s mistress. She ran home like a mudwoman and found her son breathing his last.

However, her two daughters were rushed to the hospital, and fortunately, they survived since they had been the last to consume the poisoned food. Emily, with a heavy heart, buried her son, while the woman who poisoned her children was arrested, charged with murder, and sentenced to prison.

Conversely, amidst all her sorrows, Emily found solace in her two remaining little angels; she divorced her husband, moved back home with her parents, got a job, and educated her girls, who are currently very important people in society.

Unfortunately, as the world celebrates Mother’s Day, Emily’s girls are sad as they cannot celebrate their hero, who has selflessly toiled for them since she left this world five years ago.

It’s, however, crucial to wish all mothers, like Emily and many other mothers who toil and embrace motherhood selflessly as a 24-hour job without pay but feel fulfilled at the end of the day, a happy Mother’s Day due to their little angels’ happiness.
