Police Guidelines on Acquisition of  Certificate of Good Conduct with Ease

Ugandan police have issued guidelines on how to apply for a certificate of good conduct for both people living in Uganda and in the diaspora.

A certificate of good conduct is a document issued by the police directorate of INTERPOL and international relations and given to those seeking employment abroad or at home.

This certificate is issued by the police through the Directorate of Interpol and International Relations.

According to ASP Rubangakene Steven, the OC in charge of certificates of good conduct at Interpol, the applications are made online through the Uganda Police Website.

An applicant is required to have a national identity card or Uganda passport, and a fee of Shs80,000 is payable in the bank and not in cash to any middlemen.

“Applicants before have been asked to pay more than the usual amount. So I recommend that all applications be made online and not through middlemen,” ASP Rubangakene said.

He explained that upon completion of the online registration and payment in the bank, you are required to go back to the portal and fully complete the application.

According to ASP Rubangakene, there have been issues with the portal bringing errors, and this is because applicants make the mistake of clicking on complete application when they haven’t done the actual process.

One should only click “complete application on the website after completing the payment in the bank.

“Upon booking the date on the website, you go to the biometric center of your choice, either INTERPOL Kololo or Naguru Biometric Center, where your fingerprints will be lifted as part of the process of attaining the certificate. You will be told to come back after 5-7 working days, “he added.

APPLICANT IN THE DIASPORA

“As a number one requirement, an applicant in the diaspora should have a valid email address. An applicant must go to an authorized agency or police station in the country of residence to capture fingerprints on hard paper. Thereafter, go to the email and apply for the certificate on the Uganda Police Website. Once you are done with the online application, attach a copy of your passport showing the exit and entry stamps plus two passport-sized photos to the fingerprints. Use any available means of sending the certificate, including DHL, EMS, or if you are near any National Central Bureau in that country,” he explained.

He adds that one can also use the INTERPOL of that country to send the fingerprints via a communications system known as 124/7.

“In that regard, when the fingerprints reach INTERPOL Kololo, police will convert the fingerprints to digital format, and thereafter a certificate of good conduct will be processed,” ASP Karuhanga said.
