The Uganda Civil Aviation Authority (UCAA) is conducting a full-scale emergency simulation exercise at Entebbe International Airport.

The exercise aimed to assess the airport’s readiness and coordination capacity in handling emergencies, is in line with international best practices and regulatory requirements set by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).

Speaking at the Entebbe International Airport, Vianney M. Luggya, the spokesperson of UCAA, said that the exercise began at 1:30 pm on Friday, May 23, 2025.

He urged the general population, who use the airport’s amenities, not to be alarmed by the circumstances.

“Users of the facilities at Entebbe International Airport and members of the public are urged not to be alarmed by the simulated smoke, fire, and emergency response activities in and around the airport,” he stated.

The exercise involved simulated smoke, fire, and emergency response activities, including ambulances and other emergency vehicles with sirens, to test the response capabilities of the airport and its stakeholders, such as medics, security agencies, the Uganda Red Cross Society, Uganda Airlines, and others.

This follows a partial emergency exercise conducted in June 2024, with previous full-scale drills held in November 2022 and 2019.

The UCAA emphasized that such exercises are mandatory for international airports to ensure compliance and identify areas for improvement in emergency response protocols.
