President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has expressed condolences to Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan following the death of her husband, Hafidh Ameir Hassan.
Museveni shared the condolence message on his official X handle, extending sympathies on behalf of himself, his family and the people of Uganda to President Suluhu, her family and the people of Tanzania.
In the message, Museveni praised Suluhu for her dedication to Tanzania and Africa, saying he had witnessed her commitment since her time as Vice-President and later as President.
The President also recalled the close cooperation between Uganda and Tanzania, citing trade, the East African Crude Oil Pipeline, the Murongo-Kyikagate mini-hydro project, roads in Tanzania, the Masaka-Bukoba transmission line and the Standard Gauge Railway, which has reached Isaka and is expected to extend towards Uganda and beyond.
He acknowledged the support Suluhu’s husband and family provided to her public service, noting that he had met her son, Abdul, several times.
“It must, therefore, be a great loss to you,” President Museveni stated, praying that God would guide the Tanzanian president through the difficult period.
He further wished Hafidh Hassan eternal peace.
