Now, as the royal drums fall silent, Uganda waits to see how the kingdom will honour the Omukama and begin the next chapter of its history.

Harald was born on February 21st, 1937, and his early childhood was shaped by the Second World War. When Nazi Germany invaded Norway in 1940, the young prince and members of his family went into exile in the United States before eventually returning home after the war.

His father's death occurred on August 26th, 1995. Exactly 31 years later, on August 27th, 2026, King Oyo himself died at the age of 34.

Preliminary information indicates that he may have died from heart failure. Colleagues and family members said he had experienced health challenges, including episodes of convulsions and fainting, but the exact cause of death will be established by medical authorities.

"He was a freedom fighter, a patriot and a peacemaker. When we engaged, he understood that Uganda needed unity rather than endless conflict," Museveni said.

Another turning point came in 1986 when Yoweri Kaguta Museveni’s National Resistance Army captured power. Ali negotiated a peace agreement that saw UNRF fighters integrated into the national army. Returning from exile as a Major General, he began a new political journey that lasted nearly four decades under the National Resistance Movement.

General Moses Ali belonged to a generation that witnessed colonial rule, independence, military governments, civil conflict, and national reconstruction. Admired by supporters for his endurance and commitment, and viewed by others through the complexities of Uganda’s political history, he remained one of the country’s most consequential public figures.
