"This is no longer just about legal technicalities but about a human life. Counsel Lukwago has dedicated his entire professional life to defending the rule of law and constitutionalism. To see the same system he has served now turn against him in his hour of greatest need is painful," Lulume added.

Locetta called for the full implementation of the 4+4 agreement and urged the new House of Representatives leadership, selected on October 6 under Speaker Abdulnabi, to cooperate with UNSMIL (United Nations Support Mission in Libya) and finalise electoral reform laws without delay. She also expressed concern over the High Council of State’s rejection of the 4+4 agreement, urging the body to honour its commitment.

Electricity supplied by UEDCL, Oyat added, has become more expensive than it was under UMEME, while load shedding continues. 

"How do you tell a boda-boda rider to stop moving when movement is how they earn a living? How do you tell a trader, a farmer or an ordinary worker to stay home when their livelihoods depend on getting to work, reaching markets and serving their customers?" Centenary asked.

According to Byanyima, Besigye was once again in detention and had become gravely weakened after months of imprisonment and illness. His case, she said, was not simply about the persecution of one leader, but also served as a warning designed to raise the cost of opposing the government.

Segura said co-presidents Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo had violently suppressed peaceful protests since 2018, unjustly detained, tortured and killed opponents, persecuted Catholic clergy, and silenced independent media and civil society. 

"Uganda has over 15 million learners and only about 300,000 teachers. The pupil-to-teacher ratio is already 1:58 to 1:60 in many UPE schools, against the recommended 1:45. Closing dozens of colleges and keeping only a few centres will drastically cut annual output. This gap will never be closed if this arrangement is fast-tracked by government," Lubega said.
