Hundreds of mourners have eulogized the late Prince David Kiijanangoma Mugabe Araali as one of the core pillars and fighters for the development of Tooro Kingdom and selfless fighter for human rights.
In a Funeral service held at St. Luke church Ntinda on Thursday, September 17th, 2026, mourners gathered to pay tribute to a once proclaimed King of Tooro, a grandson of Omukama George Rukiidi Mathew Kamurasi and a cousin to the recently fallen King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukiidi IV.
Princess Grace Ochola Kiijanangoma, the elder sister of Prince David Kiijanangoma said that her brother was a selfless prince and always meant well and fought for the rights of those oppressed.
“David was a very loving prince who always fought for the oppressed and fought for the rights of many whether he knew them or not, he had a very big heart and touched many people he came across,” she said.
Brigadier General Henry Isoke, the Head of State House Anti-corruption Unit said that he got to know Prince Kiijanangoma when he used to send him messages of concern about corruption and that’s how he knew he was a man of integrity and said as government they grieve with the family.
“On behalf of government, the President conveys sincere condolences to the Babiito Royal family for the loss of Prince David at a very critical time when we needed him most. He was a gentleman and a custodian of Tooro culture and his death leaves a big gap in the Babiito family. I appeal to the royal Babiito to remain calm and united as we go through the coming transition,” Brig Gen Isoke said.
While eulogizing the fallen Prince, Andrew Irumba, a Personal Assistant to the fallen Prince and also his Spokesperson noted that Prince Kiijanangoma stood for the truth and exerted pressure on the recently fallen King Oyo and Queen Mother Best Kemigisa to return to Tooro Kingdom and be actively involved in Kingdom affairs.
“It was Prince David Kiijanangoma who stood up to offer alternative leadership by declaring himself King of Tooro after seeing a big leadership gap created by then King Oyo who was mainly staying in Kampala and had become a visitor in his own Kingdom,” Irumba noted.
Prince David Kiijanangoma was a Son of Prince Paul Christopher Kiijanangoma who was a son of Omukama George Rukiidi III. David was also a big brother to the yet to be crowned King of Tooro Edward Rukiidi Kiijanangoma soon to be His Royal majesty Edward Rukiidi Nyabongo I and is survived by seven children, six girls and one boy.
Prince David Kiijanangoma was born on April 15th, 1967 and succumbed to throat cancer at the Mulago Cancer Institute on September 15th, 2026, at the age of 59 years.
Prince David is to be buried at the Tooro Royal tombs (Hagasani) in Karambi Fort Portal on Friday September 18th, 2026, where his father, great grand fathers and Babiito Royals are buried.
