The report further indicated that 241,230 out of 302,800 registered public officers declared their income, assets and liabilities during the April 2026 declaration period, representing an 80% compliance rate.

“It is alleged that between 17 and 30 June 2026, at the Mitooma District Local Government offices, the accused diverted part of the funds to pay UGX31,162,400 for fuel that was never supplied, as well as allowances for road works that were allegedly never carried out. This resulted in a loss of UGX45,066,400 to government,” SHACH said.

Isoke highlighted that the campaign is currently operating in Bunyoro, covering Kiryandongo, Masindi, Buliisa, Hoima and Hoima City, with the broader aim of recovering public resources, strengthening accountability and improving service delivery.

The Uganda Law Society President, Isaac K. Ssemakadde noted that Katunji was surrendered to the United States on a Saturday even though a five-judge constitutional petition and an application for interim protection were pending, with a hearing apparently scheduled for the following Monday. 

Police identified the suspects as Simon Irumba, Abson Kiiza, George Kadama and Lenaxi Baluku.

Preliminary police investigations indicate that at about 5:30 a.m., Matovu went to his girlfriend's residence. Police said that as the two were leaving the residence, they were allegedly confronted by a man who had previously been in a relationship with the same woman.
