UPC Asks Museveni to Arrest ‘BIG FISH’ Corrupt Officials in Gov’t

“As UPC, we condemn corruption at all levels because it's because of corruption that hospitals do not have medicine and our transport infrastructure is so bad,” she added.

The Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) has urged President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni to draw attention to well-known corrupt officials whom they refer to as the “Big Fish” in government to prove his war against them.

This comes after the President promised to deal with corrupt officials during the State of Nations address on June 7th, 2024.

Sharon Arach Oyat, the UPC spokesperson, made the appeal during the weekly press conference at the party headquarters at Uganda House on Wednesday, June 12, 2024.

She noted that serious investigations and arrests should be carried out on all suspected corrupt officials without discrimination.

“The president’s threats to corrupt officials could only make sense when the ‘big fish’ who have been involved in so many corruption scandals in the country are thoroughly investigated and arrested,” said Arach.

Arach adds that “arrests are made on people who are engaged in petty corruption cases, which is okay, but those in big government positions should also be investigated, and necessary action should be taken.”

She said the UPC as a party will never tolerate corruption amongst its members, stating that party President Jimmy Akena noted that corruption is a dangerous cancer.

“As UPC, we condemn corruption at all levels because it’s because of corruption that hospitals do not have medicine and our transport infrastructure is so bad,” she added.

President Museveni has in the recent past maintained a tough grip on corrupt officials.
