The Speaker of Parliament, Anita Annet Among, has urged the Uganda Police to widen the coverage of CCTV cameras to get rid of criminal acts including assassination and robbery, among others.

According to Among, expanding the coverage of the CCTV camera network will help in detecting those behind criminal acts and bring them to justice as required by law.

“In a bid to augment security, I urge the Uganda Police Force to expand the coverage of the national CCTV network and ensure that the existing ones are functional,” Among said.

While presiding over the plenary session on Tuesday, February 27, 2024, Among asked the Ministry of Finance to consider its tax policies in order to favour the importation of CCTV cameras. She stated that this will encourage private individuals to own devices that can provide evidence to aid a quick investigation of such crimes.

“To encourage private individuals to install CCTV on their premises, I urge the Minister of Finance to consider tax incentives to promote the importation of CCTV cameras and related devices,” Among said.

The speaker called upon all the relevant security agencies to thoroughly investigate the incident of Bbosa’s assassination and bring the culprits to book.

In addition, Among appealed to Ugandans to be tolerant of each other even at the point of disagreement, stating that they can disagree but still co-exist.

“We need to preach tolerance to our people. No amount of disagreement should warrant the murder of a person. We can disagree but still co-exist. Uganda is enough for all of us,” she said.

The speaker’s request stems from the recent gun murder of Ndiga (Sheep) clan leader Daniel Bbosa, who was shot dead on Sunday, February 25, 2024, from his car near his home in Lungujja parish, Lubaga division in Kampala.

Speaker Among conveyed heartfelt condolences to His Royal Highness the Kabaka of Buganda, the people of Buganda, and all Ugandans for the demise of Engineer Daniel Bbosa.
