
Security agencies have arrested a 41-year-old man in connection with the killing of an 18-year-old student in Wakiso District, authorities have confirmed.
The suspect, identified as Herbert Musasizi, was arrested in Gulu District following a police manhunt after being linked to the death of 18-year-old Martin Bukenya, a student at Hillside Secondary School Matugga on 14th February, 2026, around 8:00 PM in Mabanda Cell, Gombe Division, Nansana Municipality, Wakiso District.
Preliminary reports indicate that Bukenya, a resident of Kirinyabigo in Kawanda, Nabweru Division, Wakiso District, was allegedly assaulted at the suspect’s residence after he was found inside the house with the suspect’s 14-year-old daughter.
Authorities say the teenager was reportedly beaten during the confrontation and later succumbed to death due to the fatal injuries he got.
In a statement issued on 20th February 2026, by the Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson SP Rachael Kawala, she confirmed his arrest, noting that the suspect was tracked and apprehended in Gulu District.
“The suspect is now in custody as investigations into the case continue. I also thank the authorities for their joint efforts in apprehending him,” SP Kawala said.
Police have not yet released further details regarding the circumstances leading up to the incident, as inquiries remain ongoing. Investigators are working to establish the full sequence of events surrounding the altercation.
The case has sparked concern among residents in Wakiso, with local authorities urging members of the public to remain calm and allow investigations to proceed.
