Police in Masaka have arrested two people for participating in the death of a 50-year-old woman in Bukakata sub-county.
The arrests were made on November 9, 2024, in Birinzi village, Kabangali LC I, Bukakata sub-county in Masaka district. The deceased was identified as Elizabeth Nabulya, and the suspects have been identified as Topista Nakaggwa, aged 70, and Peter Mwanje, all residents of Birinzi village in Bukakata sub-county, Masaka district.
In an interview with journalists, SP Twaha Kasirye, the Greater Masaka Police spokesperson, confirmed the arrest and revealed that the two suspects are in police custody at the Masaka city police station.
Things took a turn for the worse on November 8, 2024, when the deceased, together with her daughters, who had come from Kampala, went to attend a giveaway function in Birinzi village. However, at around 9:00 pm, the deceased received an anonymous call telling her to rush back to her home that there was an emergency.
One of the deceased’s daughters, identified as Nakazzi, revealed that when their mother took long to return to the function, they decided to go check on her and also change their clothes; however, they found her hanging dead in the outside kitchen. Beside her, there was a lifeless white cock, yet she doesn’t have any poultry, prompting them to scream out for help, and the function came to a halt.
“Police in Masaka was notified right away, and they came to seal off the crime scene and ordered the locals to stay away from the scene, which they did; however, today morning, a canine unit was brought to sniff for the killers, and the dogs ended up at Nakaggwa’s home, mom’s elder sister,” Nakazzi disclosed.

She added that it was shocking but at the same time not surprising because the two have been having land wrangles for a long time, though she did not expect murder to raise.
SP Kasirye condemned this heinous act and called upon the locals to keep calm as investigations are underway.
“I am grateful to the locals in Bukakata for not doing any mob justice once these suspects were arrested; however, I urge them to be calm because investigations are underway and the culprits who did this are going to be charged for this murder,’’ he noted.

Police have attributed these violent incidents to family disagreements and hired assailants targeting individuals involved in land wrangles.
