Gov’t to Provide Start-Up Kits to Graduates of Presidential Skilling

According to President Museveni, the hubs were initiated to offer free skilling programs to vulnerable young people who didn’t have the opportunity to attend formal education.

The government is set to start providing start-up kits to youths who have completed training from all 19 Presidential Skilling Hubs in the country.

This was announced by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni on Sunday, November 10th, 2024 while officially launching the Bukedi Presidential Skilling Hub in Kibuku district.

Currently the hub is training over 200 young people in various skilling programs, including carpentry and joinery, building and construction, bakery, hairdressing, tailoring, and fashion designs, among others.

The president said providing start-up kits to youths who have been fully skilled will empower their initiatives to create jobs for themselves.

Museveni said he has also approved the plan to support the establishment of a SACCO per district for the youths trained from the hub, where they can easily borrow money to support their initiatives.

According to him, the hubs were initiated to offer free skilling programs to vulnerable young people who didn’t have the opportunity to attend formal education.

Muhammad Nakeba, the LCV Chairperson, requested the President consider increasing the current number of youth being admitted for the Skilling program from 200 to at least 500 due to overwhelming demand.

Eng. Raymond Kamugisha, the Director of Presidential Projects and Industrial Hubs, said the trainees are trained for six months before they can be awarded a certificate by the Directorate of Industrial Training, DIT, an equivalent to the Uganda Certificate of Education.
