UCC Taps Procurement as Engine for Innovation and Socio-Economic Growth

“To ensure alignment with our broader objectives, procurement is now represented at top management level and operates under the direct oversight of the Office of the Executive Director,” Nyombi said.

NyombiThembo , the Executive Director of Uganda Communications Commission (UCC), has underscored procurement as a strategic tool for socio-economic transformation, emphasizing its role in fostering innovation, social inclusion, and value for money.

Speaking at the UCC Suppliers’ Conference today, Nyombi highlighted that suppliers are more than service providers they are vital partners in achieving the Commission’s mandate.

He noted that procurement accounts for over 70% of UCC’s budget, making it the organization’s largest expenditure area with significant strategic importance.

“To ensure alignment with our broader objectives, procurement is now represented at top management level and operates under the direct oversight of the Office of the Executive Director,” Nyombi said.

The Executive Director reaffirmed UCC’s commitment to fairness, strict legal compliance, and collaboration with oversight institutions.

He also announced plans to fully digitize procurement processes by year-end, aiming to streamline operations, reduce bottlenecks, and lower business costs for both the Commission and its suppliers.

Nyombi described the conference as a new era of robust, transparent partnerships founded on open dialogue, supplier feedback, and shared accountability for better public service.

Suppliers welcomed the remarks, viewing them as a blueprint for smoother collaboration amid Uganda’s broader push for digital and economic reforms.
