Police in Kampala have arrested a 38-year-old man accused of impersonating a police officer and allegedly participating in a bag-snatching incident earlier this year.
The suspect, identified as Kuteeka Hassan, a resident of Musibula Zone in Rubaga Division, was apprehended on April 8, 2026, following a tip-off from a victim who recognized a vehicle believed to have been used in the crime.
In a statement issued today, Thursday, 8th April, 2026, Kampala Metropolitan Police (KMP) spokesperson, Rachael Kawala disclosed that the arrest is connected to a January 2026 incident at the Nateete traffic lights.
“A 17-year-old victim was targeted by individuals travelling in a motor vehicle, registration number UAQ 950P, a Golf model. The suspects allegedly snatched the victim’s bag before fleeing the scene,” Kawala stated on X.
On the afternoon of April 8 at approximately 4:00 p.m., the victim reportedly spotted the same vehicle and immediately alerted authorities. Police officers responded promptly and intercepted the vehicle, leading to the arrest of one suspect.
A search conducted at the time of arrest revealed that Hassan was in possession of an identification card bearing a police logo for the Criminal Investigations Department.
The card, marked with identification number CID 006, had the suspect’s name inscribed on it, raising suspicions of impersonation.
Police have since registered a case of personation against the suspect.
