The Assumption of Mary is a significant event in the Catholic faith, celebrated every August 15th.

The day is a reminder that Mary, mother of Jesus, was taken up to heaven in a special way because of her unique role as the mother of Jesus Christ.

Every August 15th, the Pope has to lead the recitation of the Angelus prayer From St. Peter’s Square with people who are gathered in the square.

During this year’s celebration prayers, Pope Francis said that the Lord has brought down the powerful from their thrones, lifted the lowly, and fed the hungry.

“Mary is trying to tell us something more important: that God, through her, has inaugurated a historical turning point and reminds us to remain humble,” said Pope Francis.

The Virgin Mary reminds us that it’s not power, success, and money that will prevail but instead service, humility, and love, and true power is service and love, he said.

Kansiime Onesmus says that on this day last year he specifically prayed for a job, and a few days later he was shortlisted for the exact Job and was later offered the Job.

“The assumption day is a day of miracles, and every year I look forward to it because I always get what I pray for, and to me, that’s a miracle about this special day,” Kansiime added.

The Assumption of Mary continues to resonate with believers, offering solace, hope, and inspiration and standing as a reminder of the eternal truths and promises of faith.

Across denominations and cultures, believers gather to honour Mary’s unique place in Christian history, celebrating her assumption into heaven as a symbol of hope, unity, and the eternal love of God.

Many Catholic churches around the country held mass to celebrate assumption day, and many faithful got time off their schedules to go and pray.
