One person has been knocked and killed in a hit-and-run accident along the Balintuma road in Kampala.

The incident happened on Monday morning, August 20, 2024, in Mengo along Balintuma Road after a Subaru car lost control, hit and killed on spot a pedestrian, then swerved off the road and fell into the valley.

The deceased’s names are still unknown; however, it was revealed that he is a worker at Stabex Petrol Station in Nabulagala.

According to eyewitnesses, the driver of the Subaru car was driving at a high speed, and he lost control after failing to break, thus killing a pedestrian that was walking at the roadside, and then the car swerved off the road and fell down in the valley where the Ndejje University basketball pitch is located.

They added that on going to check if the driver of the Subaru was still alive, he was nowhere to be seen, indicating that he ran away after the accident.

During an interview with journalists, a boda boda rider identified as Lumala revealed that the Subaru driver was driving as though in a race, swaying from left to right, which showed that he might have been drunk.

’’The Subaru driver might have been drunk because when he was driving, his car was swaying left to right, plus the speed at which he was driving was insane,’’ Lumala disclosed.

The suspect is currently on the run; however, the police were able to tow away his car while the body of the deceased was taken to the mortuary for postmortem examinations.
