Residents of Mawogola county in Mateete sub-county have called upon different security personnel to help tighten security in Sembabule district due to the high insecurity rate and armed robberies that happen along the different routes in Mateete.

According to the residents of Mawogola, security needs to be increased in Mawogola because there are too many cases of mob justice, armed robberies, burglaries, and murdering of people, which mainly happen in Bukanasa valley, Kabundi town, and Kiwumulo zone in Mateete town.

‘’We need the police to heighten security in Mawogola because our lives and property are in danger, yet we do not have a police station in our area, which makes us live in constant fear,’’ the residents revealed.

While being interviewed by journalists on May 21, 2024, Aminu Musoke, a resident of Bukulula village in Mawogola sub-county, Sembabule district, said that he was recently drugged and robbed of UGX 4 million as he headed to the bank in Sembabule, adding that he was instead taken to Sembabule Hospital, where he gained consciousness.

Musoke further said that the valley that slopes to Sembabule is a blackspot and den of thieves since it is where he was robbed, together with the other two boda boda riders who, last week, were drugged and their motorcycles stolen.

‘’We need police to patrol this valley in Sembabule, Bukanasa, Kabundi town, and Kiwumulo zone in Mateete town because these places have too much crime, which is making us live in unhealthy fear and anxiety,” Musoke revealed.

David Wills Ndawula, the Sembabule District Police Commander, said that it is true that Mateete Rural has not yet gotten a police station, hence the excessive crime and insecurity.

Musoke also requested district leaders in Sembabule to help police get land where they can put a police station in Kabundi town so that they can start doing night patrols to curb the thieves from the mentioned crime-infested areas.

‘’We have tried to curb insecurity in Mateete town council; however, our biggest problem now is the high crime rate and insecurity in Mateete Rural, which needs to be curbed as soon as possible,’’ Musoke revealed.

He further promised the residents of Mateete Rural that he would put an end to the high insecurity and crimes in the mentioned crime-infested places.
