President Museveni Applauds Speaker Among for Eradicating Poverty in Bukedea, Stadium Infrastructure

East African federation is not only about sports; however, it’s a strategic security and prosperity for all East Africans, which is a result of producing goods and services that sell the region.

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni expressed confidence in Speaker Anita Annet Among’s efforts to let the people of Bukedea out of poverty and to construct a stadium to boost the field of sports in Uganda.

The President expressed his appreciation while launching the 21st edition of the Federation of East African Secondary School Sports Association (FEASSA) games in Bukedea that kicked off at Bukedea Comprehensive School in Bukedea district in eastern Uganda.

The FEASSA games are played by both girls and boys, and these games include Table Tennis, Badminton, Rugby, Hockey, Netball, Basketball, Handball, Soccer, Swimming, Football, and Handball.

President Museveni first commissioned the Bukedea Comprehensive School’s sports park with the football stadium, which is an indoor sports arena, and an Olympic-sized swimming pool on August 18, 2024.

As the chief guest at the launch of FEASSA games in Bukedea district, the president commended Among for developing a sports infrastructure in the eastern part of the country, urging others to borrow a leave.

‘’I want to thank Rt. Hon. Anita Annet Among and the colleagues here who developed the stadium and did it quickly at a reasonable cost; therefore, this should serve as an example to others so that we can develop the other stadiums in other parts of the country,’’ he said.

President Museveni further told the participants that the East African federation is not only about sports; however, it’s a strategic security and prosperity for all East Africans, which is a result of producing goods and services that sell the region.

‘’If the people of East Africa wake up and start producing, they would realize that the internal markets are not enough to absorb the products, like Uganda, which produces a lot of maize and milk, among others. Still, in Uganda, we are buying rice from Tanzania and also other goods from Rwanda; therefore, the bigger the market, the better the prosperity of our people,’’ Museveni said.

Minister Peter Ogwang thanked President Museveni for championing the East African Community Federation.

“The integration process cannot be complete without the involvement of these young people, and I would like to thank you for your vision and your colleagues in the region for allowing the young people to participate in the sports to allow us to market the region,’’ Ogwang said.

The development of the Bukedea stadiums in the eastern part of the country does not only shine one region; however, the infrastructure has pulled other EAC countries into Uganda and left the country on a market boom.
