According to police, 65 suspects were arrested in Nansana and surrounding areas, 38 in Kira Municipality, 16 in Kyanja, and 136 within Kampala’s CBD bringing the total to 255 arrests.

A joint security task force has arrested 255 suspects after coordinated operations across key urban crime hotspots in Wakiso District and Kampala.

The operations, conducted on February 16th, 2026, targeted areas that security agencies have identified as gathering points for individuals suspected of engaging in criminal activity.

These included Nansana West Ward, Kyebando, Gganda in Wakiso Sub-county, Nansana Municipality, Kitukutwe Zone, Kiwologoma, Namugongo Nsawo Zone in Kira Municipality, Kyanja under the Kira Road Policing Area and selected black spots within Kampala’s Central Business District (CBD).

Luke Owoyesigyire, the deputy police spokesperson for Kampala Metropolitan said that the operation was intelligence-led and designed to dismantle criminal networks operating within densely populated urban communities.

“The Joint Task Force conducted a series of coordinated operations in various parts of Wakiso District and Kampala with the aim of combating crime and enhancing public safety,” Owoyesigyire said.

According to police, 65 suspects were arrested in Nansana and surrounding areas, 38 in Kira Municipality, 16 in Kyanja, and 136 within Kampala’s CBD bringing the total to 255 arrests.

“The targeted locations had been under surveillance following complaints from residents and business operators,” Owoyesigyire said

“These areas had been identified as gathering points for individuals suspected of engaging in criminal activities that have been affecting residents and members of the public,” he added.

All suspects were screened and subsequently charged with offences related to possession of suspected narcotic substances and other related crimes.

Police confirmed that exhibits of suspected narcotics were recovered during the operations.

The suspects are currently detained at respective police stations pending further processing and court appearance.

Security officials say the operation forms part of a sustained campaign to neutralize urban criminal elements and reassure communities, particularly in high-traffic commercial zones such as the CBD.
