A tragic accident that occurred on Monday, January 27, 2025, along Bwindi-Butogota Road has left one tourist dead and two others injured.
The accident, according to the Kanungu district territorial police, involved a tourist van, and they are yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
However, eyewitnesses said the incident took place today at 7:50 AM when a tourist vehicle with registered number plates UAM 271U was heading to Butogota from Bwindi and failed to brake, forcing the vehicle to veer off the road into the river at Munyaga Bridge in Bikuto cell, Southern ward, Butagata Town Council.
The victims were rushed to Bwindi Hospital for immediate medical attention.
Unfortunately, one foreign tourist was pronounced dead upon reaching the hospital, while the two others are in normal condition receiving treatment.
Police arrived at the scene, and investigations are ongoing to determine the exact cause of the accident.
