The National Unity Platform (NUP) party top leadership and several mourners have eulogized fallen comedian Mbuuse Yokana aka Kapere Lufotoose as a true diehard of NUP the party who even in hard times was never a sellout.
While addressing mourners at the party headquarters at Makerere Kavule on November 2nd, 2026, the Acting party President, John Baptist Nambeshe said that as a party they have lost a strong comrade and a true party supporter.
“We have lost a lot of close people, but when you see the track record of Kapere it speaks for itself. As you see the people present here it really shows he was a loved man and he didn’t betray his party,” Nambeshe said.
The acting president also promised the widow of Kapere and the children that the party will do whatever it takes to support the family.
“I have been seeing Kapere here on many occasions though personally we were not very close but I can promise you on behalf of the party, as NUP it has now become a job to look after orphans and widows and we promise to support the family,” Nambeshe noted.
Muwanga Kivumbi, the deputy president for Buganda noted that when times are hard, the most unlikely people espouse the fight for change and give people hope and that they have lost that in Kapere.
“In Kapere we have lost a gallant soldier. When we get the microphone, we should be able to speak for those who didn’t have a chance to speak and Kapere showed us that every chance he got he would speak about the injustices,” Muwanga said.
Muwanga also said that after the death of Kapere, the family has to now struggle to cater for the education, and hospital needs of the children yet in developed countries, this would be the responsibility of the state.
“In many countries, a widow gets a house, children get free education and free health care and here we are trying to figure out how they will survive. I pray we rush the need for change so that things can get better,” Muwanga added.
The party Secretary General, David Lewis Rubongoya commended Kapere for always being present at different party events and not being a sell out.
“This was a home for Kapere and he had been here on most of our events. We salute him for not selling out or betraying our president to get money. He decided to stand with his president, NUP, for Ugandans and for the truth,” Rubongoya stated.
Rubongoya further noted that as a party, they didn’t know the struggles Kapere was going through and had they known they would have stepped in to help. They, however, pledged to support the family in any way possible.
“We didn’t know his struggles otherwise we would have helped. There are some members who have approached me and want to help to finish Kaperes house and also some women who want to support the wife to start her a business,” Rubongoya noted.
According to Kapere’s wife, Lydia Nakandi, the husband is likely to have died of stress after the landlady calling him on Sunday, November 1st, 2026, while visiting his children at school in Buddo and threatened to evict Kapere for one month rent arrears worth UGX 320,000.
“After the phone call, Kapere seemed worried about the land lady’s call and asked me how we will take care of the children when thrown out and afew minutes later around 6:00 pm, Kapere collapsed and when we rushed him to the nearby medical centre in Buddo he was dead,” Nakandi narrated.
Kapere who was a comedian and a staunch NUP supporter is survived by a wife and children and will be buried at his ancestral home on Tuesday, November 3rd, 2026, along Kalagi road in Mukono district.
Kapera is being laid to rest on Tuesday November 3rd, 2026, in Bulimu village, Kiyunga division in Mukono North constituency. He is survived by a wife and four children.
