President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has appointed Juma Witonze Kisekka as the new Minister of State for Internal Affairs, pending approval by Parliament.
The appointment comes after the President nominated Kisekka to replace the previous minister-designate for the position, Dr. Lawrence Muganga, following concerns over his cited multiple citizenships, which contradict the Uganda’s Constitution.
Kisekka is a senior mobilizer for the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) and the National Resistance Movement (NRM) in the Central Region. He has played an active role in political mobilization and grassroots organization and has previously sought election to the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA).
If approved by Parliament, Kisekka will serve in the Ministry of Internal Affairs under Minister Prof. Ephraim Kamuntu. The ministry is responsible for maintaining internal security, overseeing immigration and citizenship services, national identification, the Uganda Police Force, the Uganda Prisons Service and other agencies tasked with public safety and national security.
Once the Appointments Committee completes the vetting process and Parliament grants its approval, Kisekka will formally assume office as Minister of State for Internal Affairs.
