MOH Encourages Parents to Embrace Second Polio Immunization

According to the World Health Organization, the virus is transmitted via the fecal-oral route and by aerosol droplets (usually children), and there is no cure for polio, but it can only be prevented by immunization.

The Ministry of Health has launched a nationwide polio immunization campaign and urged parents plus caregivers to take their children aged 5 years and below for vaccination.

The campaign, which commenced on Thursday, November 7, 2024, will run until November 10, 2024.

In a post by the Ministry of Health on their official X handle, it highlighted that during this period, health workers will visit homes in 49 districts to administer the polio vaccine, including Busoga, Bugisu, Bukedi, Teso, Sebei, and Karamoja.

“The second round of the polio vaccination campaign has kicked off in 49 districts. Just 2 drops of the polio vaccine will protect your child for life. The vaccine is safe, effective, and free,’’ part of the statement read.

The Ministry of Health aims to eradicate polio in Uganda and create a polio-free generation.

However, the Ministry of Health stated that the government seeks to prevent the spread of this debilitating disease by ensuring that all children are vaccinated.

The ministry encouraged them to cooperate with health workers and ensure that their children receive the polio vaccine.
