Kenyan Dreamline Bus Crash kills three, Severely Injures over 40 Passengers

Three people have been tragically killed in an accident in Kisumu along the Londiani-Muhoroni road in Kenya.

This incident happened on January 11, 2025, in the Nukiat area along the Londiani Junction-Muhoroni Road, a known route for travelers heading between Mombasa and Busia.

Initial reports show that the accident happened when the driver of the Dreamline bus travelling from Mombasa to Busia was trying to negotiate a bend; however, he lost control, causing the vehicle to swerve off the road. It overturned, killing three people on the spot and injuring several others.

While speaking to the media, the Kericho County Traffic Enforcement Officer (CTEO) Selina Chirchir revealed that two adults and a child were among the dead, and more than 40 passengers aboard the Dreamline bus sustained serious injuries in the crash.

Chirchir added that the driver of the Dreamline bus was arrested by police at the scene and the bodies of the three deceased individuals were removed from the wreckage and transported to a nearby medical facility for post-mortem examination.

’’I am grateful to the traffic officers and emergency response teams for working promptly and tirelessly to retrieve the trapped passengers and attending to the injured,” Chirchir noted.

Chirchir added that investigations into the cause of the crash are underway; however, he called upon motorists to adhere to traffic laws to avoid such tragedies in the future.

This incident highlights the growing number of road accidents across the country, especially in Kisumu, prompting renewed calls for stricter adherence to traffic laws.

On November 13, 2024, a tragic accident occurred at Iguhu Bridge along the Kisumu-Kakamega Highway, where a tanker lost control and collided with two matatus. Initially reported as ten fatalities, the death toll later rose to thirteen as more victims succumbed to injuries.

These incidents highlight ongoing concerns about road safety in Kisumu, with authorities urging adherence to traffic regulations to mitigate fatalities.
