CAADP Delegates Urged to Promote Peace and Security to Achieve Agenda 2063

While delivering the remarks at Speke Resort Munyonyo , H.E Joao Lourenco, the Angolan President who also doubles as the African union chairperson called upon member states to prioritize peace and security for member states to have a booming agricultural sector.

The three-day comprehensive Africa agriculture development Programme (CAADP) Kampala summit 2025 comes to an end on January 11, 2025, with delegates from 43 African Union member states being urged to maintain peace and security if the CAADP strategic plan 2026-2035 is to be achieved.

While delivering the remarks at Speke Resort Munyonyo, H.E. Joao Lourenco, the Angolan President, who also doubles as the African Union chairperson, called upon member states to prioritize peace and security for member states to have a booming agricultural sector.

“The Summit has extensively addressed issues relating to peace and security in Africa, with particular emphasis on the increase in terrorist acts, violent killings, and the unconstitutional changes of democratically elected governments.

“As a continent we need to prioritize peace and security and the stability of state institutions to guarantee the economic and social development of our countries,” he said.

Joao also called for dialogue as an alternative to end conflict in the region in the case of Sudan and the Rwanda and Democratic Republic of Congo.

“Once again we call on the parties to the conflict to seriously consider the need to resolve the conflict through dialogue, Joao added.

In his parting remarks, the president of Uganda, H.E. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, said that it is possible for Africa to grow if leaders continue meeting, share ideas, and come up with African solutions.

“We have got everything; it is just ideological, philosophical, and strategic mistakes that make our countries lag behind. Therefore, if we meet and share ideas like we have done now, we are going to sort out all this,” President Museveni noted.

The CAADP summit was concluded with delegates adopting the CAADP strategic action plan 2026035, which is to offer interventions in the agricultural sector that will enhance food security in Africa.
