A joint security team of police officers, soldiers, and local vigilantes arrested two men in Kireka Biira, Wakiso District, in the early hours of Wednesday, 5th November, 2025, for the possession of a sharp panga.
According to the Kampala Metropolitan Police (KMP) spokesperson Patrick Onyango, the suspects, Jovan Lumu and Nicholas Mawanda Kasozi, were apprehended at around 2:00 a.m. near the Oilcom petrol station.
The KMP spokesperson revealed that the patrol team intercepted Lumu, who was found carrying a newly purchased sharp panga. During interrogation, admitted that he and two accomplices had traveled from Nansana to Kireka Biira on a motorcycle, registration number UMA 201DQ, ridden by Mawanda.
“Mawanda was traced by the patrol team and was arrested along with the motorcycle after it developed a flat tire, which forced him to stop for repairs,” Onyango said.
Both suspects are currently detained at Bulenga Police Station, facing charges of possession of a dangerous weapon. The recovered panga and motorcycle have been seized as exhibits.
Police investigations are ongoing to identify and apprehend the other accomplices mentioned by the suspects.
Authorities have urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities, particularly during night time, as security operations continue in Kireka Biira and surrounding areas.
