A total of 63 students in senior four at Excel College in Pakwach district have been expelled for staging a violent strike.
The Wednesday, August 2, 2023, strike reportedly left various school properties damaged.
Francis Oketwengu, the School head teacher, said the affected students were expected to be sitting for their Mock examinations.
“The students were expected to sit their mock exams, but when they did their first paper, they claimed that the paper was not the one that they were supposed to do,” said Oketwengu.
“We tried to explain to them, but the students did not listen to us, so they went to their dormitories and smashed all the glass windows of the two dormitory blocks using stones, removed the bathing shelter, and broke some beds,” said Oketwengu.
He adds that the suspended students are expected to report back to school on Wednesday, August 9, 2023, for mediation.
“These students will come back after two weeks. That’s when they will sit for their mock exams. This means that they will not have holidays so that they can recover the time they have lost,” said Oketwengu.
He said a total of seven million shillings is required to repair the damaged property in the school.
