Deadly Mystery: Was Former DPC Ahimbisibwe death, murder or suicide?

But perhaps the most baffling question is this: Can someone realistically hang themselves inside a septic tank? Given the structure of such a chamber, many wonder how a rope could be tied there or why someone would choose such a place.

The mysterious death of Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Julius Ahimbisibwe, formerly the District Police Commander (DPC) of Jinja Road, has left more questions than answers.

According to earlier information, several media houses reported that his body was discovered by his wife on Monday morning, allegedly hanging by a rope inside a septic tank at his home in Nakitokolo, Kyengera Town Council, Wakiso District.

But as investigators dig deeper, several unsettling questions remain. What prompted his wife to check the septic tank at 2:00 a.m.? Why that specific location, and at such an unusual hour?

If reports suggest the couple had recently reconciled after the violent incident in March 2024, had peace truly returned to the home or were tensions still bubbling beneath the surface?

Known to many before, the deceased Ahimbisibwe had been suspended from duty after allegedly shooting his ex-wife, Anita Namusoke, during a domestic dispute in March 2024.

Nexus media learnt that the officer had since been remanded to Luzira Prison for over two months before being granted bail before the police received an alert of his alleged suicide.

“We registered a case of suspected suicide in Nsangi, Wakiso District. It’s alleged SSP Julius Ahimbisibwe may have taken his life by hanging. The scene was processed and investigations are ongoing,” ACP Rusoke Kituuma confirmed.

However, conflicting reports and the unusual discovery location have stirred doubt and public speculation.

Local media outlets have offered differing accounts some suggesting it was a straightforward suicide, while others question the circumstances.

According to LC1 Chairman Augustine Walakira, when they arrived at the scene, the officer was still hanging but the rope gave way, causing the body to drop into the septic tank.

Aside from all the public hearsay, statements from the deceased officer’s wife, police and others, the suicide theories in this case do not add up.

But perhaps the most baffling question is this: Can someone realistically hang themselves inside a septic tank? Given the structure of such a chamber, many wonder how a rope could be tied there or why someone would choose such a place.

“Where exactly was the rope secured? And could someone physically access and fasten it within the confines of a septic system?” are questions investigators must now face.

The 2024 Police Annual Crime Report shows a 26% increase in attempted suicide cases 218 in total raising broader concerns about stress and mental health in Uganda.

While a suicide case linked to mental health could be hard to ignore, many including residents in the area remain skeptical trying to put a face to the cause of Ahimbisibwe’s murder.

Ibra Ssendagire, a neighbor intrusively shared with our reporter that the entire community was in shock asking why a person recently released on bail would hurriedly take his own life!

As the investigation continues, many are hoping for clear answers. But with contradictory statements, unusual timing, and a peculiar scene, the truth behind SSP Ahimbisibwe’s death may take time to unravel.
