A group of angry Boda-Boda operators in Namayingo district have reportedly killed and subsequently burned the body of a man suspected of stealing a motorcycle.

The incident took place on Tuesday morning, June 4, 2024, in Sango village when an unidentified man was found in possession of a suspected stolen bike.

Eyewitnesses told police that the deceased was riding a motorcycle registration plate (UFU 687U) suspected to have been stolen from one of their members.

Steven Muyamba, the chairman of Sango Boda Boda Stage, said the angry mob also burned the deceased’s body after he was killed.

According to him, attempts by the police to rescue the suspected thief from being lynched failed after they were overpowered by the residents.

“Police came, shot in the air, and used teargas to disperse the angry mob from killing the suspect but remained futile and even set his corpse ablaze,’’ said Muyamba.

Muyamba noted that theft of motorcycles in the area has remained rampant.

“The angry riders in Sango killed the suspect so as to teach the other thieves a lesson not to steal again, and if anyone is caught with a stolen bike, he or she will face rough times and face the same fate as this suspect,’’ added Muyamba.

The police in the area have not yet release official statement in regard to the incident.
