UNEB Launches Procedure to Simplify 2025 Exam Registration Verification

According to Odongo, Parents and candidates can now send Reg followed by the full index number to 6600 to verify registration status instantly.

The Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) has rolled out an SMS service to simplify the verification of candidates’ registration ahead of the 2025 national examinations, ensuring parents and students can confirm details quickly and accurately.

In a statement released on 18 August 2025, UNEB Executive Director Dan Odongo said that the exercise which began on 10 August, is mandatory under the UNEB Act (Cap 259 S.4(2)) and aims to prevent errors that could leave learners unregistered when exams commence.

According to Odongo, Parents and candidates can now send Reg followed by the full index number to 6600 to verify registration status instantly.

He added that the board is committed to using technology to enhance transparency and ease the verification process for all learners across the country.

The display of candidates’ registers continues until 10 October at schools, examination centres, and district headquarters.

Heads of centres have been instructed to ensure compliance with the Personal Data Privacy and Protection Act, only displaying relevant biodata for verification.

Key details for verification include the candidate’s index number, correct spelling and order of names, date of birth, gender, registered subjects, and photograph.

UNEB has also outlined procedures for correcting errors, PLE candidates should fill amendment forms via the UNEB portal, while UCE and UACE candidates must submit a formal amendment request accompanied by a national ID or birth certificate.

Odongo urged parents of learners in schools without UNEB centre status to confirm registration with the relevant authorities.

“This exercise is important to avoid unfortunate scenarios where students are discovered unregistered at the start of the examination period,” he said.

With over 1.4 million candidates registered for the 2025 national examinations, UNEB’s SMS verification service is set to streamline the process, giving parents, schools, and learners confidence that all students are correctly registered and ready for the upcoming exams.
