Trump Annuls Harvard’s Ability to Enrol International Students

Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem ordered the department to terminate the Harvard University’s Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP) certification.

The United States administration under President Donald Trump has halted Harvard University from enrolling international students, citing that existing students should transfer to other schools.

Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem ordered the department to terminate the Harvard University’s Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP) certification.

According to a statement dated May 22, 2024, Harvard withheld information about a foreign student, and they are fostering violence, coordinating with the Chinese Communist Party on its campus, and antisemitism.

“It is a privilege, not a right, for universities to enroll foreign students and benefit from their higher tuition payments to help pad their multibillion-dollar endowments. Harvard had plenty of opportunity to do the right thing, It refused,” Noem said.

Recently, the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) terminated $60 million in federal grants to Harvard University.

In April 2025, the Trump administration froze $2.2 billion in federal grants to Harvard after they rejected demands to eliminate Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) programs.
