Tooro Kingdom loyalists both from with and outside the Kingdom have pledged total support for the upcoming coronation for the yet to be crowned king, His Royal Majesty Edward Rukiidi Nyabongo I scheduled for September 29th, 2026, at the Royal Palace (Karuzika) in Fort Portal city.
While speaking to Nexus media in Fort Portal tourism city on Monday, September 21st, 2026, city residents pledged to support all the activities of the coronation day (Empango) as they have always done in the past.
The pledge and commitment to support Kingdom activities comes in after the organizing committee for the coronation events launched a fundraising call seeking for over UGX 925 million to facilitate the coronation activities, which are to attract huge crowds to witness the coronation of the new king after the passing of Kabumba Ikingura HRM Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukiidi IV on August 27th, 2026, in the US.
Wilson Nyabongo, a Mubiito from the royal clan said that for the past 30 years, Batooro both in Fort Portal, the entire Kabarole and diaspora, plus other well wishers have supported coronation events for the late King Oyo and will continue to do the same for the yet to be crowned King Nyabongo I.
“Tooro Kingdom Coronation events have always been supported by the people of Tooro, well wishers and government and we are very sure people love our new king and will do whatever it takes to support all upcoming events,” Nyabongo said.
Richard Murungi, a resident of Kamwenge district currently working in Fort Portal city said that all subjects of Tooro Kingdom both from Kamwenge and Kitagwenda districts are preparing and have already set up coordinators to help raise funds and other items needed for the coronation event.
“Though Batooro are still mourning the passing of the late King, many are willing and have already started pledging and contributing towards the Empango event as we anxiously await the coronation of our new king that we love and shall protect jealously like we did with our late king,” Murungi said.
Dorcus Kabasambu, a resident of Kyegegwa district noted that the new King is much loved and locals are excited to contribute any amount they can to make sure the coronation event is a success.
“We love our Kingdom and our King will be coronated because we shall support in all ways possible by contributing foodstuffs, cows, goats and any other item that we can for the event as we celebrate the coronation of our new king and we are very positive that he will reign well and his period as king will unite Batooro now more than ever before,” Kabasambu noted.
Just like in the past, coronation events have always been supported by subjects, kingdom well wishers, the government and many other private companies and as was in the past, many people believe that more people will embrace the campaign to raise funds for one of the biggest events of the year as many will turn up to witness history as a new king is crowned, an event that last happened 31 years ago as the late king Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV was crowned king at the age of three years after the passing of his dad Omukama Mathew Olimi Kaboyo.
The coronation event, which is scheduled for September 29th, 2026, will have many other cultural events pre and post coronation as culture dictates and will be attended by many other cultural leaders from Uganda and the rest of Africa, government officials, subjects of Tooro Kingdom and many other well wishers, as well as opinion leaders from the rest of the world.
