Police in Rukungiri district have arrested three suspects in connection with the murder of Doreen Auma, a 50-year-old sister of a UPDF soldier, in Bikurungu Town Council.
The suspects, identified as Arthur Esau Arimpisya, Yoramu Karuhize, and Moreen Kyomukama are accused of murdering Doreen Auma, a peasant and resident of Kanshekye II Cell, Eastern Ward, Bikurungu Town Council.
Police revealed that Auma’s murder took place on April 8, 2025, at around 3:00 pm at Kanshekye Cell, Eastern Ward, Bikurungu Town Council in Rukungiri district, and the case came to light after RO 14977 LT. Richard Ogwanga Tokwiny (40), a UPDF soldier attached to the 19th Battalion at Nchwera Barracks, Rwenshama, in Rukungiri District, reported the incident.
According to Lt. Ogwanga, he received a phone call at around 4:00 pm from someone who claimed that his sister, Auma, had been struck by lightning at her home.
Alarmed, he set out to verify the situation at her residence; however, on his way there, a local resident intercepted him, debunked the lightning story, and revealed that Auma had allegedly been assaulted by Arimpisya, who accused her of insulting his father, Karuhize.
Prompted by this revelation, Lt. Ogwanga reported the matter to the Bikurungu Police Post, triggering an investigation.
”My sister died a weird death however i believe the authorities will get to the bottom of her death’s cause,” Lt. Ogwanga stated.
Kigezi Region Police spokesperson Elly Maate confirmed that the case, initially recorded at Bikurungu, is now under homicide investigation at Rukungiri Central Police Station.
Maate added that the crime scene in Kanshekye Cell was examined by district Scene of Crime Officers (SOCO), homicide detectives, and local police.
”We have the suspects in our custody and i believe once the investigations are done we shall produce a report on this matter,” Maate stressed.
The body was later transferred to Rwakabengo Health Center III Mortuary, where a postmortem revealed that Auma had been assaulted, suffering internal bleeding, which eventually led to her death.
Police urged the public to remain vigilant and report any information that may assist in the case.
