Police has issued a strong advisory urging the public to maintain heightened vigilance and awareness during the Easter festivities, a period known to increase vulnerability to various criminal activities.
In a statement released on April 17, 2025, Rusoke Kituuma, the Police spokesperson emphasized that individual vigilance, community watch programs, and enhanced security measures are critical to ensuring public safety during the Easter celebrations.
According to Rusoke, security measures at churches and other religious venues prevent thefts and other crimes, including installing walk-through and metal detector machines at entry points.
“We urge all church goers to exercise caution in their surroundings and collaborate effectively with security agencies at places of worship,” Rusoke said.
He further emphasized that peace and security are a collective responsibility. The public is encouraged to report suspicious persons or abandoned objects immediately to the nearest police post or station to prevent potential threats.
Rusoke told motorists to strongly adhere to road safety regulations, including avoiding speeding, drunk driving, and using un road worthy vehicles urging drivers to avoid fatigue by resting adequately before long trips, especially in challenging terrains.
“Security has been tightened around public gathering spots such as bars, pubs, cinemas, disco halls, guest houses, and lodges. Owners of these establishments are urged to implement strict security checks and crowd control measures,” he stated.
Authorities remind parents and guardians not to leave children unattended or allow them to roam alone during the festivities to prevent harm or abduction.
Meanwhile, police officers and other security forces have been deployed extensively to ensure a peaceful Easter celebration. The police have also partnered with religious leaders to review and strengthen security protocols at places of worship.
