Police Arrest Three, Rescue 15 Children from a Religious Cult in Mpigi

Musa Kakembo, the LCIII Chairperson of Muduuma Sub County, said the suspects were arrested during a raid on Wednesday, June 12, 2024, on a house in Nswanjere-Kasooto village where 15 children had been confined.

Police in Mpigi district have arrested three people suspected of operating a religious cult and also rescued a total of 15 children.

Musa Kakembo, the LCIII Chairperson of Muduuma Sub County, said the suspects were arrested during a raid on Wednesday, June 12, 2024, on a house in Nswanjere-Kasooto village where 15 children had been confined.

He said the children, aged between 6 and 14, were discovered locked inside a big mansion singing Christian worship songs.

When questioned about their identities, the children and adults all claimed to have been born by Jesus and brought to the location by him.

Kakembo further expressed concern that the cult might be backed by a wealthy individual or organization.

“Whoever is funding them must be very rich because they stay in a big mansion,” said Kakembo.

The rescued children are kept at Bujuuko police station to aid the ongoing police investigation.
