More than 900 opposition supporters across the Lango sub region have defected to the ruling National Movement Party (NRM).

This was announced on Tuesday, July 4, 2023, by the NRM party Secretary general, Richard Todwong, during the last campaign rally held in Oyam North, Oyam district, where President Yoweri Museveni drummed up support for the NRM candidate, Junior Samuel Engola.

The group consisted of stalwarts from the UPC, NUP, and FDC parties, and they were received by President Museveni.

Notable among the stalwarts were former Oyam North MP and lawyer to the LRA rebel group, Krispus Ayena Odongo; former Lira district Council Speaker George Rashid Opio and George Ojwang Opota, a former district councilor in Lira.

NRM SG Todwong, while presenting the group, thanked them for joining the ruling party, describing it as a great decision to promote development.

President Museveni arrived in Oyam district to drum up support for the NRM candidate in the Oyam North by-election to replace the former Minister Col. (Rtd) Charles Engola Macodwogo who was killed by his bodyguard.
