Over 26 Families Left Homeless After Devastating WildFire In Nabilatuk, Karamoja Sub-Region

A devastating fire has left over 26 families homeless in Nakobekobe village, Nabilatuk District. The wild fire gutted manyattas, destroying homes and properties.

While speaking to the media today, Remegio Achai, the Member of Parliament for Pian County, said that the Minister for Disaster Preparedness is aware of the incident and is coordinating efforts to assist the affected families.

Richard Madete the Chief Administrative Officer for Nabilatuk District said that several people were injured in the fire, including a mother who suffered severe burns, and are currently receiving treatment at the local health centre.

The tragedy has deeply shaken the community, prompting swift responses from local leaders and organizations. The Director of Public Prosecution, Jane France Abodo reached out to Tian Tang group in Mbale for assistance

Tian Tang group responded promptly , visited the affected community offering both financial and social support. Additionally, Owen Jin the deputy managing director Tian tang group has initiated community sensitization programs to educate residents about fire safety measures in an attempt to prevent future disasters.

Local authorities have also launched investigations into the cause of the fire, which is believed to have started from a charcoal stove in one of the homes, before spreading rapidly due to the high winds describing the fire as a “wild fire.”

Uganda is facing soaring temperatures nationwide, with the Karamoja region experiencing extreme daytime highs reaching up to 40°C, significantly increasing the risk of wildfires. This has led to the country being classified as a high wildfire hazard zone. Recently, wildfires in Los Angeles have claimed lives and displaced hundreds, Raising concerns about Uganda’s preparedness to tackle such disasters.
