Chris Obore, the former Parliament Communications Director and six other accused persons have been granted bail following a period of more than two months in detention at Luzira Prison.
Obore was given a cash bail of UGX 30 million and the court at the same time asked him to hand over the title to his property in Kiwanga, Mukono, and also to surrender his passport. His sureties were then required to provide non-cash bonds amounting to UGX 300 million.
The court warned that the property deposited as part of the bail conditions could be forfeited if the accused breach the terms of their release.
The other accused persons were also granted bail with varying cash-bail amounts. Method Murebe was granted UGX 20 million cash bail, while Rajab Kaaya Ssemalulu and Emmanuel Emuron Okwi were each granted UGX 20 million cash bail. Their sureties were required to execute non-cash bonds of UGX 300 million.
Daniel Adilo and Leonard Okema were each granted UGX 35 million cash bail, with their sureties similarly bonded at UGX 300 million non-cash.
Vincent Otebata was granted UGX 30 million cash bail, while his sureties were required to execute non-cash bonds worth UGX 300 million.
As part of the bail conditions, all the accused were ordered to deposit their passports with court and surrender land titles for properties they own.
The seven officials have been on remand at Luzira Prison since July 1st, 2026, following their arrest and interdiction from Parliament.
Those interdicted include Obore, Parliament Director of Human Resources Daniel Adilo, Principal Research Officer Rajab Kaaya Ssemalulu, Principal Protocol Officer Emmanuel Emuron Okwi, Capacity Development Officer Vincent Otebata, Executive Secretary in the Office of the Speaker Leonard Okema, and Office Supervisor in the Office of the Sergeant-at-Arms Stella Itute.
The officials are facing charges under Sections 18(a)(i) and (ii), and 19(1) of the Anti-Corruption Act.
Granting of bail does not determine the guilt or innocence of the accused. The case will proceed through the court process, where the prosecution will be required to prove the allegations against them.
