The National Unity Platform (NUP) party has endorsed Sultana Salim as the party flag bearer in the upcoming Kisoro Woman MP by-election.

The announcement was made by the party Secretary General, Lewis Rubongoya, during a weekly presser on Monday, October 28, 2024, at the party headquarters at Makerere-Kavule.

“I present to you Sultana Salim as our party flag bearer for the Kisoro woman MP by-election, and I urge all of you to go to Kisoro and support her in looking for votes,” Rubongoya said.

Salim, while addressing the press after her endorsement, promised to be a voice for the voiceless and will represent the people of Kisoro wholeheartedly.

“Kisoro has been voting NRM 100%, but the government has not delivered on the many promises to the people of Kisoro, and I promise I will deliver and represent the people of Kisoro and push the government to improve service delivery for my people,” she said.

Salim further pledged to push and have the roads in Kisoro worked on since it’s a tourism district and popular for mountain gorillas.

“We have a lot of potential in Kisoro as a tourism district, and the road network is very poor, which hinders Kisoro from reaching its full tourism potential,” she added.

The Kisoro Woman MP seat fell vacant after the death of Sarah Mateke Nyirabashitsi, who was also the State Minister for Defence and Veteran Affairs.

Salim joins Rose Kabagyeni, a former Kisoro Woman MP and currently serving as a senior presidential advisor on agriculture who was declared the NRM flag bearer.

According to the Electoral Commission road map, the different candidates will be nominated from October 30-31, 2024, and the elections will be held on Thursday, November 14, 2024, where successfully nominated candidates will campaign for 12 days.
