The Nnabagereka Development Foundation has teamed up with MTN Uganda to launch the ekisaakaate program to bridge the gap between tradition and innovation.
The annual event was flagged off by Her Royal Highness, Queen Sylvia Nagginda, on August 7, 2024, at the palace in Bulange Mengo.
In her speech, the Queen of Buganda, Sylvia Nagginda, expressed her readiness to work with the telecom company to empower young people.
“We are excited to launch the ekisaakaate 2025, focusing on integrating our rich cultural heritage with technology. I am happy that we are embracing tradition while preparing for the future,” she said.
Nnabagereka also added that technology inclusion in the program will modify and enhance outreach and innovation, especially among young people.
“I am pleased that over 78% of Uganda’s are young people, and through the ekisaakaate, we aim to empower them with the tools to preserve our cultural roots in this digital age; therefore, I believe that technology can amplify our cultural values and practices, fostering connection and belonging, even for Ugandans abroad,” she said.
She further expressed pride and devotion in the tireless work imparted in shaping well-cultured individuals before cordially welcoming everyone to join the program.
“At the Nnabagereka Development Foundation, we are committed to nurturing well-rounded leaders grounded in both traditional and modern values. I invite you to join us as we empower the next generation of Ugandans,” she added.
The “ekisaakaate” program is expected to kick off in January 2025 at Janan Secondary School for eligible children aged 6 to 18 years under the theme “Okwanaganya Obuwanga bwaffe ne tekinologiya” loosely translated as Intergrating Culture with Technology.
