NDA Arrests Health Worker over Theft of Government ARVs

According to NDA, since March 2024, the authority has successfully retrieved government medications worth more than UGX 2.5 billion.

The Uganda National Drug Authority (NDA) has detained a health worker as part of its continuing campaign against government-supplied drug theft.

According to a statement posted on the NDA’s official X handle, on November 15, 2024, the NDA’s intelligence and enforcement team arrested Ronald Kibalya Nditusawa, a health worker at Kamuli Hospital.

The NDA noted that Kibalya was discovered moving 12 crates containing 720 tins of antiretroviral (ARV) medications, totaling 64,800 pills.

“These drugs were clearly marked as government property and were not intended for sale,” the statement reads in part.

The statement further stated that the health worker was attempting to deliver the stolen drugs to Nansana in Wakiso district.

“Along with Kibalya, three other individuals, Mwesigwa Moses, Bwambale Walter, and Mumbere Godfrey, were arrested while attempting to move the stolen drugs from a Toyota Primo (UBN 848Y),” the statement read.

According to NDA, since March 2024, the authority has successfully retrieved government medications worth more than UGX 2.5 billion.

This latest arrest shows the authority’s dedication to fighting the theft of important medications and ensuring that they reach those in most need.
