President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has cautioned the graduating military officers from the Senior Command and Staff College, Kimaka, in Jinja against the politics of identity.
The President was on Tuesday, June 25, 2024, taking questions from the senior military officers from State House-Entebbe.
In answering their concerns, which revolved around defective ideological positions like ethnic antagonism, regional instability, and local parochialism, President Museveni said, “I shared the NRM’s principles and how we have been able to manage growth and development.”
He urged them to safeguard their economies against the politics of identity, which undermines national unity in many of these African countries.
President Museveni attributed the lack of unity and instability in most African countries to the failure of national institutions, like the building of a strong army.
This is the latest cohort of senior army officers drawn from many countries around the world to complete their one-year Senior Command Course.
The training is intended to impart to the officers the necessary skills in military science as well as peacekeeping operations.
It is also aimed at equipping the officers with a level of training that enhances their analytical skills in order to make them relevant in the modern military environment.
The Senior Command and Staff College (SCSC) is Uganda’s premiere military training institution, which conducts operational-level training for mid-level military officers, men and women, of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF).
