The newly constructed Leju Stadium in Terego District, West Nile Region, was officially commissioned on Thursday, 16th October 2025 by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, marking an important improvement to the district’s social infrastructure and prospects for economic growth.

The commissioning was part of the President’s courtesy visit and campaign trail in Terego, where he also addressed a huge gathering at the stadium, which now features a fully built perimeter wall, stands, and a well-maintained green playing surface.

“I am glad to open up Leju Stadium which is a valuable addition to Terego district’s social infrastructure,” President Museveni said.

The President explained that the government has delivered key infrastructure; the next focus should shift to Operation Wealth Creation and other programs aimed at boosting local economic productivity.

“Peace has enabled us to build infrastructure and create a foundation for prosperity. The next phase is for the people to generate wealth and improve livelihoods here in Terego,” he added.

Hon Obiga Kania, State Minister for Internal Affairs and NRM Chairperson for Terego, welcomed the investment and the need for complementary initiatives to empower youth.

“Your Excellency, Terego is one of the fastest-growing districts in terms of infrastructure. We appreciate your leadership in putting money directly into the hands of our people,” Obiga added.

The opening of Leju Stadium also comes alongside calls from local leaders to accelerate infrastructure projects such as the Manibe-Yumbe and Manibe-Rhino Camp roads and expand administrative services in the newly created Terego District.

President Museveni encouraged residents to have the opportunities presented by the improved infrastructure.

“The government has delivered on social and sports facilities. It is now up to the people to take full advantage of these developments for wealth creation and sustainable livelihoods,” he noted.

With infrastructure in place, President Museveni urged residents to seize these opportunities to generate wealth, empower youth, and build a prosperous future for the community.
