President Museveni has cautioned politicians against using money in politics which he regarded as a colossal mistake, counterproductive and unnecessary.

President Museveni made the remarks while meeting the 478 National Resistance Movement party flag bearers and Chairpersons from Rubaga, Nakawa, Kawempe, Makindye and Kampala central at Kololo Independence Grounds on August 5, 2023.

“It will be good if the people listen to what these leaders are proposing and elect them. If they are not elected, they should move on, do other activities, and remain financially stable,” President Museveni said.

He encouraged members to instead adopt the use of word of mouth and tell people what they can do using government resources but not using their own money to buy votes.

“It’s not good and it’s a very big mistake to use personal money in politics,” the President noted.

He added that, for all his 63 years in Uganda’s politics, he has never sold his cows to facilitate elections.

The NRM Deputy Secretary General, Rose Namayanja expressed gratitude to the President for his stand against homosexuality and all efforts aimed at preserving the culture and values of Uganda.

The meeting was also attended by the NRM Director-Mobilisation, Rosemary Nansubuga Sseninde, and the NRM Director for Information and Publicity, Emmanuel Dombo, among other leaders.
