A female mobile money agent who had been missing for two days has been found disfigured in a forest along Ggaba Road in Kampala district.

The victim, whose names have been withheld, was discovered by locals on November 20, 2024, along Ggaba Road, Makindye division in Kampala district, after she was attacked by mobile money thugs that allegedly robbed and kidnapped her before she went missing on Sunday, November 17, 2024.

According to Ian Menvu, one of the locals on Ggaba Road, after the news about her disappearance, the locals and her husband mounted a search in different hospitals and clinics along Ggaba Road and surrounding areas.

“This woman went through a lot of pain; she might have been sexually assaulted too because the stab wounds she had all over her body were too deep and scary. I have never seen such a horrific thing being done to anyone in that manner,” Menvu said.

He added that they tried to ask her what had happened; however, she was too weak to talk, had a weak heartbeat, and tears were coming out of her eyes.

A taxi driver along Ggaba Road called Kiggundu said that Ggaba police were notified and rushed her to the hospital for immediate treatment.

“The police told us that investigations are going to start; however, they are going to wait for the woman to regain some strength so that she can inform them about what happened to her to aid in their investigations,’’ Kiggundu noted.

Kiggundu also said that it seems she might have been stabbed from somewhere else and was just dumped at the bushy area in Ggaba.

Recent police investigations revealed that mobile money agents are increasingly targeted due to inadequate security measures.

On June 15, 2023, at around 10:30pm, Sylivia Ndagire, a mobile money agent of Kitemu trading center, was trailed by ride-along robbers, who attacked her immediately after she was dropped at the access road to her home in Kuminemu zone, Nsangi ward, Kyengera Town Council.

Due to the vulnerabilities in mobile money operations, particularly the lack of private security for agents and their tendency to carry large sums of cash alone at night, authorities recommend increased vigilance, hiring security, and altering routines to mitigate risks and also protect both their lives and assets too.
