Police in Nateete have arrested a man identified as Abdul Kirumira for allegedly destroying police CCTV cameras and other camera installations within the areas of Kabojja.

This incident happened on July 6, 2024, at around 8:00 p.m. in Kabojja, Kyengera Town Council in Wakiso district.

According to the police, Kirumira was on several occasions seen destroying the CCTV cameras and their installations by throwing stones at them, hitting the poles so as to break them, and digging out the cables.

While speaking to journalists at the Naguru Police Headquarters on July 8, 2024, ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, the Deputy Police Spokesperson for Kampala Metropolitan, revealed that Kirumira was arrested because this was not the first time he was trying to destroy the police CCTV cameras and several other installations too.

Owoyesigyire added that Kirumira is currently at Nateete Police Station. He, however, said that the suspect is going to have a mental examination to see whether he is mentally stable or unstable.

’’Before we process and prosecute the suspect in the courts of law, we are going to check his mental sanity first to ascertain whether he was doing this deliberately or not. So, if the results come out positive, then he will be booked,’’ Owoyesigyire disclosed.

He further noted that what Kirumira did is a common practice amongst drunkards, and many have been arrested, but others are still on the run. However, he warned all culprits who have been destroying and messing up the police CCTV cameras to stop, as they will be arrested instantly once caught.
