The Leader of Opposition in Parliament, Mathias Mpuuga on Friday, August 4, 2023, eulogized the late Head of the National Unity Platform (NUP) Elders’ league, William Byaruhanga as someone who offered the much needed counsel to the younger generation of leaders.

According to Mpuuga, the late Byaruhanga was a gentle elder who gave his all to build a strong and formidable force that NUP is today.

The LOP’s condolence message was delivered during a funeral Service at St. Luke’s Church in Ntinda by the Busiro East Member of Parliament (MP), Medard Lubega Ssegona who doubles as NUP’s Senior Counsel.

“We mourn with you but at the same time celebrate the extra ordinary life of this remarkable man. A humble and gentle elder who gave all to build a strong and formidable force that NUP is today. As head of the party’s Elders’ League, he offered a much needed counsel to the younger generation of leaders and supporters alike. He was steadfast of the struggle for renewed Uganda. We shall greatly miss you,” Mpuuga’s message read.

He added that, he himself is an orphan and therefore speaks with some level of experience that they should be proud that their father died a dignified death and that there are people who die and are not mourned because they are an embarrassment, that people do not even want to associate with them.

In his own remarks, Ssegona commended the late Byaruhanga for his courage in pursuit for freedom of Ugandans.

“We are not here to mourn the death of William Byaruhaga because he had not died in vain. Instead, we are here to celebrate his life because it is a life well led and lived,” Ssegona said.

Byaruhanga 58, succumbed to cancer at Boston Medical Center in the USA on July 17, 2023. He initially belonged to the National Resistance Movement party (NRM) but crossed to NUP to pacify his political activism.
