Security agencies in Kyotera District and Tanzania have arrested a 26-year-old woman who stabbed and severely cut off her lover’s private parts in a domestic dispute.
The suspect, identified as Harriet Amanyire, was arrested in Tanzania, near the Mutukula border.
The deceased, Regan Karamagi, aged 35, and Amanyire are both residents of Kabawo zone village in Kyotera district, near the border of Uganda and Tanzania.
Karamagi, a driver for the Uganda Revenue Authority, and Amanyire, who worked at a sports betting shop, were in a relationship for six months following Karamagi’s wife’s departure for work overseas.
According to preliminary reports, Karamagi and Amanyire came back from a bar on July 22, 2024, late in the night and had an argument, which escalated into a fight between the two lovers and led to the severe cutting off of Karamagi’s genitals, and later his death.
During an interview with journalists on July 24, 2024, the Greater Masaka Police Spokesperson, ASP Twaha Kasirye, said that Amanyire was arrested in Tanzania near the Uganda-Tanzania border.
Kasirye added that after Amanyire stabbed Karamagi, she screamed for help, saying that Karamagi had pierced himself with a metal from a mosquito net, and the neighbours’ came to her rescue. However, during the chaos, she escaped.
’’Amanyire is our main suspect because the locals saw blood all over her clothes when she called for help. However, they did not mind about it and just went to help the injured, but unfortunately, he died as he was being taken to the hospital because he had lost a lot of blood,’’ Kasirye revealed.
Neighbours disclosed that they heard the two lovers arguing about Karamagi having other lovers, but he kept denying it.
In her defense, Amanyire said that she accidentally killed Karamagi out of self-defense because he was attacking her with a knife during their fight.
She said that when they came back from the bar, Karamagi was drunk and started asking for food aggressively, yet she was tired and it was very late, so she declined to cook for him, and this eventually led to the fight.
Amanyire alleges that when she saw how aggressive he was, she hit him with a stick, and this is what prompted Karamagi to bring out a knife. As they were fighting, she grabbed it and accidentally stabbed him, but she did not kill him.
’’Karamagi hurt his private parts accidentally with a metal from a mosquito net, but I did not cut off his private parts; I only stabbed him,’’ Amanyire disclosed.
ASP Kasirye revealed that Amanyire is currently being held at Kyotera Police Station.
