As Buganda kingdom gears up for the long-awaited celebration of their cultural leader, Kabaka Mwenda Mutebi II, kingdom officials are working tirelessly to support a flawless and enjoyable event.
Traditionally, the event mainly flagged off by the popular Kabaka birthday run, will draw thousands of people all over the country and beyond to run for a noble cause.
The Katikkiro of Buganda, Charles Peter Mayiga, during a media briefing, mentioned that the Kabaka Birthday Run goes beyond a mere celebration.
“It is a key annual event that gathers thousands to advocate for health, wellness, and unity, while also raising awareness for vital causes such as HIV/AIDS,” Mayiga said.
He added that this year’s run has already garnered strong support from a variety of institutions, reflecting the community’s commitment to both fitness and public health.
Together with Kampala City Council Authority (KCCA), the Katikkiro officially unveiled the routes for the much-anticipated Kabaka Birthday Run, scheduled for Sunday, April 6, 2025.

“The run will feature three race categories: 21 kilometers, 10 kilometers, and 5 kilometers, catering to participants of various fitness levels,” Mayiga stated.
He confirmed that any routes currently under maintenance would be excluded from this year’s course, ensuring a smooth and safe experience for all runners.
On behalf of Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA), the recently inducted Executive Director Hajjat Sharifah Buzeki pledged their support with a contribution of Shs 5 million towards the event.
As excitement grows in anticipation of the event, the Kabaka Birthday Run continues to stand as a powerful symbol of unity, health, and charity, offering an opportunity for all involved to contribute to meaningful causes while honoring the Kabaka’s milestone birthday.
